What Music Motivates You?

I am the type of person who actually concentrates better when there is music on in the background. For some reason, it drowns out the sounds of the bustling office around me so that I can focus on the task at hand. That’s why you’ll always hear some form of music emanating from my office. So here’s a look at my top 5 songs to help you make it through the day.

  1. The tone setter song: Bob Marley – 3 Little Birds
If I know I have a lot of work to get done, this song is great for inducing calmness and putting my mind in a position to be super productive.
  2. The mood changer song: Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman – Por Ti Volari
This operatic duet is so beautiful you can’t help but stop what you’re doing and smile. I don’t understand anything they are saying because it’s in Italian, but it’s so silky smooth that it doesn’t matter anyway. Not to mention, it’s the opening song to the movie “Blades of Glory,” which instantly makes think of Will Ferrell ice skating and, of course, I inevitably laugh out loud.
  3. The problem solver song: Miles Davis – Freddy Freeloader
For some reason this song has a rhythm that turbo-charges my brain waves. Something about the horns that say, “Here is the solution you’ve been looking for.” Anytime I need to concentrate, on comes the jazz, especially Miles Davis.
  4. The I’m-having-a-bad-day song: 2Pac – Me Against The World
I know that most don’t consider 2Pac to be inspirational, but that is why I am head of the listen-to-his-lyrics-before-you-judge-him club. Intertwined with a classic beat, this song is positive and ends with some advice that I follow in my every day life. Who knew 2Pac would become a modern day Shakespeare?
  5. The never-forget-who-I-am song: Lynard Skynard – Simple Man
For those who have read my previous blogs, this should be of no surprise to you. When life starts to get complicated, this song reminds me to keep my perspective in check.
