I have a simple philosophy in life: It’s called “DO IT.” And do what you want to do. Fulfill your dreams, as long as those dreams and desires do not cause harm to others. There is no one standing in your way.
Strike that. There is only one person standing in your way: you.
Right. Whether you are an entrepreneur who wants to start your own company, a writer hoping to write then publish your debut novel or just someone who wants to learn a new skill and improve yourself, there is nothing that can stop you. Not if you don’t let it. Sure, environmental factors, work and familiar responsibilities may threaten to hinder your quest, but do not be thrown off course. Stop procrastinating. Start doing. If there is something in your life or for your business that you want to accomplish, that you want to do, then I only have one message for you:
Go. Do. It.
What does it mean that “you” are the only person standing in your way? It refers to your inhibitions. Your self-doubt. The nervous venom that poisons your courage and tries to vaporize your spirit and strength to continue. The sword that stabs at your vulnerabilities, trying to kill your sense of achievement.
Well, isn’t it time you fought back? The best way to overcome self-doubt is to ignore it. Go on as if it doesn’t exist. If that fails, then change your mindset. Don’t just achieve because you have to, or because you want to, also do it to spite the negative feelings that throw doubts your way.
Self-doubt is not part of you. So don’t believe it. It’s not who you are. “You” are a combination of your past achievements and future potential. That is who you are. Do not let anyone else—especially yourself—tell you differently. Self-doubt is not your friend. It’s a killer. A killer of dreams. A criminal who should be overcome and brought to justice, not embraced.
You can be your greatest adversary, yes. But you can also be your greatest ally, if you decide to.
