And the winner is… CNN

So, it’s been a little over two weeks since I made the decision to kick my celebrity gossip habit. I removed ALL of my gossip bookmarks and replaced them with real, legit news. The Washington Post took the spot of Perez, Dlisted gave way to The Wealthy Frenchman (a fantastic blog that reposts NY Times editorial pieces, I HIGHLY recommend checking it out), and CNN won the fight and replaced TMZ on my bookmarks toolbar.

I assumed the transition would be hard, and, honestly, I didn’t think I would last long. I figured I’d be back on the gossip within a day or two, a week tops. Well, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at just how easy it was to give up the oh so entertaining saga that is celebrity gossip. While I haven’t been 100% clean, I have only read some gossip 2 or 3 times in the past two weeks… which is a HUGE change, considering I used to check the sites 2 or 3 times a day.

And boy do I feel better about myself! I actually know what is going on in the world, and I can talk with my parents about politics and current events rather than discuss Britney’s parenting skills (or lack thereof). All it took was wiping my bookmarks bar clean of the sites, who woulda thought!

I guess it goes to show that when you have a negative presence or influence in your life, it’s a lot easier to rid yourself of it when it’s not right in front of your face, taunting you, begging you to give in. So if you’re spending too much money, hide your credit cards and give yourself a weekly allowance of just cash. Eating junk food? Fill your fridge with healthy snacks. And I just want to say, for all those other celeb gossip-aholics, the freedom feels great! I have absolutely no idea what Lindsay has been up to for the past two weeks, and I couldn’t care less!
